Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the most common questions about the Poliitiline sobivus test.
We do not ask for your name, email or registration. We store your answers with a random identifier, together with the approximate region and city of your connection, your browser and a hash of your IP address made with a secret key, which cannot be used to recover the address and serves to prevent abuse. The hash, the browser and the city are deleted after 12 months; the region is kept for statistics. Your age and the party you would vote for are optional and never appear in the sharing link. The processing is therefore pseudonymous, not anonymous, and we prefer to be precise about it. Details are in our Privacy Policy.
We compare your answers with each party’s documented position (manifestos, documents adopted at their congresses, votes in the Riigikogu and public statements). We analyse how closely you match across 10 topic categories (economy, taxes, education, healthcare, environment, immigration, etc.) and calculate a match percentage with each party.
The test has 38 questions covering the issues debated in Estonia: the economy, taxes, healthcare, education, the environment, immigration and more. Depending on the mode you choose, it will take you between 7 and 10 minutes to complete.
The test includes the 7 parties that hold seats in the Riigikogu or are polling above the 5% of the vote required by the electoral threshold, ahead of the elections on 7 March 2027. The list may change before the vote, for example if two parties merge or if a party starts or stops meeting the criterion. Every change is recorded in the revision log on the methodology page.
Yes, the test is available in Estonian, Russian and English. You can change the language at any time using the selector on the page.
Yes, when you finish the test you get a unique link that you can share on social media or with friends. You can also use the comparison tool to see how politically compatible you are with other people.
The political compass is a visualisation that places your ideological position on two axes: left–right (economic) and progressive–conservative (social). It lets you see graphically where you stand in relation to the political parties.
No, this test is completely independent and neutral. We receive no money from any political party, government, company or related organisation. The questions are worded neutrally, without mentioning specific parties. Our aim is to provide an educational tool for citizens.
It reflects the average distance between your answers and the party’s positions, not the percentage of questions on which you agree. Each question scores according to how far apart you are: an exact match gives the maximum score, being one point apart already drops it to 56% for that question, and being at opposite extremes gives zero. In addition, your firm answers carry more weight than neutral ones. It is explained in detail with a real example on the methodology page.
Currently all 7 parties have a position on all 38 questions; those not backed by an explicit document are marked as estimated. If a party were missing a position (when it is added or when a new question is added), it would not be made up: that question would be left out of its calculation, counting neither for nor against it. Each party’s profile shows how many of its positions are sourced and how many are estimated.
From each party’s documented position (manifestos, documents adopted at their congresses, votes in the Riigikogu and public statements). Until the parties adopt their manifestos for 2027, we use those from the 2023 elections. Each position has its justification shown in the party profiles and, where we have found the specific document, a link to the source. Positions we have inferred from a party’s overall stance, without a document that states them explicitly, are marked as estimated, so that you know what you are relying on.
Yes, and it is the most useful message we can receive. We need the party, the specific question, the position you think it should have and the document that supports it (a manifesto page, a vote with its date or a public statement). We check it against that source, correct it where appropriate and cite the document on the party’s profile. Full instructions are on the contact page.
For now it has no income at all: no advertising, no donations, no sale of reports. The costs are paid by its author, and no party, government or company pays anything. If there is ever advertising or donations, we will explain it on the transparency page: advertising would never appear within the test, in your result, in shared results or in the comparison tool, nor would it be chosen based on your answers, and no money would be accepted from parties, foundations, candidates or campaigns.
No. The people in that data came to the site of their own accord: there is no representative sample, no quotas, no weighting and no calculable margin of error. It describes the people who take the test, who need not resemble the population as a whole, and it cannot tell you what Estonia thinks. We only publish aggregates with a minimum of one hundred responses per cell. You can see them in the barometer.
No. Poliitiline sobivus is a personal, independent project, free and with no registration. It has no connection with any party, the Government or the Estonian electoral administration, and it is not an opinion poll. It helps you compare your views with those of the parties, but it does not tell you who to vote for. To find out how and when to vote in the Riigikogu elections (e-voting online from 1 to 6 March 2027, advance voting, or voting on election day, 7 March), see the official information from the electoral administration. We explain how we calculate the result on the methodology page.
Both questions are optional and include “Prefer not to say”. Your age is used for aggregated statistics by age group; your vote, to show you — and only you — where you agree and disagree with the party you would vote for. Neither is used to calculate your match, and the declared vote is never published or presented as a poll.
